A number of students receiving the Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI) scholarship will have to wait until next week for their payment before Christmas due to a processing issue.
In a statement, SUSI said higher education students received their payments as scheduled on Friday, but higher education students will not receive them until Monday. He apologized for the inconvenience caused to the students.
Peadar Kenny, a student at Trinity College Dublin, said it was “incredibly difficult” for the delay to occur just before Christmas and at a time when students were “at the bottom of the exams”.
âI did not receive my payment this morning and I did not receive any correspondence from SUSI. I called them and was on hold for about 30 minutes. When I finally got it right, I was told it was a nationwide problem, âhe said.
“I am in the very fortunate position of having some money in savings to fend for myself, but I know of many instances where people rely on SUSI for rent and transportation and they literally live from payment to payment.”
A number of students complained under a post on SUSI’s Twitter account, with one saying he only had ⬠8 left in his bank account.
âA lot of us depend heavily on this money today,â said another student.
