Stack it

Volunteers raised $ 2,402 in cash and 1,540 pounds of non-perishable items for the ECHO food shelf during the North Mankato Fun Days Parade on July 10. Organizers of the Pile It On promotion include board members from ECHO Food Shelf, Snell Motors, KEYC News Now, Cible and Radio Mankato. America’s Little Miss Mini Miss 2021 Beatrice Bromeland, of Eagle Lake, was recently an ambassador for the Eagle Lake Area Lions Club to help start a recyclable plastic drive.




A preschooler from Eagle Lake was recently named the 2021 Mini Miss of America’s Little Miss pageant at the Grand Nationals in Orlando, Florida.

Beatrice Bromeland, 5, is the daughter of Joe and Jennifer Bromeland.

During her reign as the defending champion, she will participate in her first parade Saturday at Eagle Lake for Tator Days. Other upcoming events this summer for Beatrice include attending a pre-game parade around the bases at a Twins game in August and an appearance at the Minnesota State Fair.

Madelia Fundraiser

The McCabe team took first place at the 16th annual Madelia Health Foundation fundraiser on June 2. The golfers on the team are Lee McCabe, Jordan Henry, Jim Prokosch and Mike Guerdet.


A record amount of donations – over $ 14,700 – were raised at the 16th annual Madelia Health Foundation fundraiser on June 2. Eighty-four people participated in the event which supports the offers of surgical services at Madelia Hospital.

The McCabe team won first place honors.

First National Bank Minnesota awarded $ 430 to Junior Achievement in the Grand Mankato area to support JA programs throughout the Grand Mankato area for the 2021-22 school year.

Each month, the First National Bank Minnesota hosts a Jeans Day on Fridays to raise funds for a nonprofit organization. JA was chosen for a month as a First National Bank Values ​​and recognizes the importance of providing a free Kindergarten to Grade 12 financial literacy, job and career preparation, and entrepreneurship program.

JA in the Greater Mankato area impacts students in Mankato, North Mankato, Eagle Lake, Cleveland, St. Clair, St. Peter, Janesville, Good Thunder, Mapleton, Minnesota Lake and Lake Crystal.

U of M Center

for transport studies

The Center for Transportation Studies at the University of Minnesota recently appointed the Executive Director of the Region Nine Development Commission, Nicole Griensewic, to be the first female chair of its executive committee. His two-year term came into effect on July 1.

The executive committee is the main decision-making body of the Center for Transport Studies. Griensewic previously served on the committee for six years and chaired its governance and communications subcommittee.

State appointments

Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan announced the appointments of area residents to state councils.

Jenny Arndt, from Waseca, has been appointed as a parent / guardian representative on the Minnesota Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities. His mandate expires on January 1, 2024.

Heidi Holmes, from Mankato, was appointed to the Social Work Council. His term expires on January 6, 2025.

Benedictine College

Moriah Lippert, of Easton, and Lucia Rynda, from Montgomery, were named to the Dean’s List of Spring at Benedictine College, Atchison, Kansas.

Full-time students with GPAs of 3.5 to 3.95 are named on the list.

Sainte-Marie University

The following area residents have been named to the Second Semester Dean’s List at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota in Winona:

Saint Mary’s University recently recognized its outstanding undergraduate students with several academic honors. These awards, representing a variety of academic disciplines, are presented to deserving students each spring.

Samantha Chaffee, from Delavan, is the recipient of the Distinction Award from the Department of Psychology.

Jordan Keeley, from Saint Pierre, is the recipient of the Outstanding Organic Chemistry Award.

Rotary Club

Seven local high school students were recognized on May 15 at the Rotary Club of the Greater Mankato Area Annual Speech and Debate Banquet. The students spoke at the virtual banquet organized by the club and each received a bursary of $ 300.

UW-Milwaukee

Residents of the area were among the applicants for degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and were eligible to participate in the virtual startup exercises on May 16.

Graduates include Kyrie Sellnow, of New Ulm, master of science; and Jeremy Freeman, from Saint Pierre, master’s degree in library and information science.
