Washington: American rapper Fetty Wap was arrested on Friday outside Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey due to a pending warrant.

According to Fox News, police had received an alert from rapper’s “679” ankle monitor prompting them to question Fetty Wap, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, the port authority has confirmed.

After releasing the rapper’s information, police discovered he had an active arrest warrant. The warrant was for public nuisance and had been issued in North Bergen, New Jersey.

Details of the incident that led to the arrest warrant are currently unclear. However, the rapper has now been released on bail, although no bond amount has been given.

Fetty Wap was subjected to an ankle watch as part of his parole for drug trafficking. He was previously arrested by the FBI in October and charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances.

The rapper and others have been accused of distributing more than 100 kilograms of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl and crack in Long Island and New Jersey between approximately June 2019 and June 2020.

They allegedly obtained the drugs on the West Coast and used the US Postal Service and drivers with hidden vehicle compartments to transport the drugs across the country.

According to Fox News, the arrests come during a difficult year for the rapper. In August, it was revealed that her four-year-old daughter, Lauren Maxwell, had passed away. The child’s mother, Turquoise Miami, has publicly confirmed the news of Lauren’s death on Instagram.
